When my first baby was born and we were looking for a nanny, I was surprised how many people I interviewed were unaware that taxes need to be withheld on payments. When I finally found someone who understood, many of the existing payroll services were expensive. So I spent a few nights writing an Excel-based tool to calculate nanny taxes and generate paystubs.
